Arsenal news: Lacazette all smiles as Emery grapples with Aubameyang in training | Football | Sport

Unai Emery and his Arsenal squad looked in high spirits as they prepare for their return to Premier League action against Sheffield United.

The Gunners are currently fifth in the table after four wins from their opening eight matches and can go third with victory over the Blades.

And Emery will be delighted to have an almost fully-fit squad to select from after Alexandre Lacazette’s return to fitness.

The French striker has been sidelined with an ankle injury since the 2-2 draw with Tottenham at the start of December.

But the frontman returned to training this week and was all smiles at London Colney this afternoon ahead of a return to the match day squad.

Emery was seen putting his players through their paces during a series of drills, including getting to grips with star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabon striker has shouldered the goalscoring burden in Lacazette’s absence and already has seven strikes in the Premier League so far this season.

Aubameyang has arguably benefitted from Lacazette’s injury, with the 30-year-old often deployed on the left flank when his Arsenal team-mate is in the starting XI.

However, the Gunners squad looked delighted to have Lacazette back on the training pitch with Aubameyang one of several stars seen with beaming smiles during the session.

Emery’s side have been in superb form despite Lacazette’s absence, unbeaten in seven matches while picking up wins against Eintracht Frankfurt, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Standard Liege and Bournemouth.

But now the Gunners have a tough run on the way with games against Vitoria SC, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Wolves following the trip to Sheffield United.

Lacazette was seen messing around with David Luiz ahead of Monday’s match while Hector Bellerin was also in high spirits as he nears a return to full fitness.

Although the Spanish right-back may find himself on the bench against the Blades with Calum Chambers currently enjoying a fine run of form.

However, Kieran Tierney could displace Sead Kolasinac on the opposite flank after working on his conditioning throughout the international break.

Rob Holding is also in contention to start at Bramall Lane, and the young centre-back looked delighted to be over his recent injury woes.
