Real Madrid player ratings vs Galatasaray: Kroos on target as Courtois and Rodrygo shine | Football | Sport
Real Madrid earned their first win of this season’s Champions League campaign thanks to Toni Kroos’ deflected strike against Galatasaray.
The German international opened the scoring by firing in Eden Hazard’s pull-back after two smart saves from Thibaut Courtois early on.
Hazard then went close to doubling the advantage when he rounded the keeper but the Belgium international could only hit the bar in a match of few chances.

Real Madrid player ratings vs Galatasaray – Champions League
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 8
Made two good saves early on to keep the hosts at bay.
Rarely troubled otherwise, but a confident performance that will have helped repair his reputation.
RB: Dani Carvajal – 6
Penned back for much of the game as he kept tabs on Ryan Babel.
CB: Raphael Varane – 7
Not a comfortable night but the Frenchman was sharp in the challenge and made a couple of important blocks to preserve the clean sheet.
CB: Sergio Ramos – 7
Took some unnecessary risks in possession but put his body on the line and led from the front with a committed, industrious display.
LB: Marcelo – 7
Provided plenty of energy down the left flank while he also completed his defensive duties with aplomb.
Showing little sign of slowing down despite his advancing years.
CM: Casemiro – 7
The Brazilian is so valuable to Real on nights like this, screening the back four diligently and breaking up opposition attacks before they get going.
However, he was often a one-man show when Real didn’t have the ball with his midfield team-mates reluctant to press.
CM: Federico Valverde – 6
A bruising night for the youngster who was on the receiving end of some rough treatment, but he maintained his composure and tried to keep his side ticking.
CM: Toni Kroos – 8
Fortunate with his deflected strike but deserved the slice of luck for his well-timed run.
RAM: Rodrygo – 8
Busy and energetic in possesion while he did his best to stretch the opposition with his pace.
Faded late on as the winger tired but looked Real’s brightest attacking talent.
LAM: Eden Hazard – 6
Appeared to misplace his pass for the opener, with his pull-back eventually finding Kroos when it looked intended for Benzema.
Then rounded the keeper and hit the bar with Real’s best chance of doubling the advantage.
ST: Karim Benzema – 6
Worked hard as usual and showed some clever link-up play but rarely looked like getting on the scoresheet.
SUB: James Rodriguez (on for Valverde, 78 mins) – 6
SUB: Vinicius Junior (on for Hazard, 78 mins) – 5
SUB: Luka Jovic (on for Rodrygo, 81 mins) – 5
