Liverpool news: Roy Keane sends demand to Jurgen Klopp over Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain | Football | Sport
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain must play more regularly for Liverpool to become a firm fixture in the England side, claims Manchester United legend Roy Keane.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has started England’s last two Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo.
The former Arsenal man is now back fully fit following a serious knee injury he suffered in April 2018.
He has been in good goalscoring form for Liverpool, netting four goals in his last three cup appearances, but has not started in the Premier League since September 14.
Keane is a fan of Oxlade-Chamberlain but says he needs to get his spot back in the Liverpool team soon.
“He comes across brilliantly doesn’t he,” Keane said on ITV.
“Obviously appreciates the game despite the bad injuries he’s had, sometimes you count your blessings a bit more when you get back.
“Obviously Gareth [Southgate]’s a big fan and he comes across as a really nice character.
“The key for him, obviously, he’s got to get games at club level, has to get in that Liverpool team and play regular games, particularly for the bigger games in the summer.
“So that’s key for him. He’s on about being consistent – you want to be consistent when you’re playing week in, week out.”
Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon says Oxlade-Chamberlain has matured during his spells out with injury.
“I think some players mature on the pitch, playing,” Dixon said.
“He’s had the opportunity, he wouldn’t have picked it, to mature off the pitch.
“He’s watched a lot of football, he’s come through those moments in trying to get fit again three or four times and I think that’s matured him.
“He’s intelligent, his ability on the ball to knock those passes, and I think England have kind of missed that ability to knock that ball behind and then also be the guy to make the run behind as well.
“So he’s got everything for me.”
