Liverpool news and transfer rumours RECAP – Robbie Fowler linked with Reds return, Klopp nominated for award, Mahrez update
Liverpool are playing Chelsea tomorrow in a game that could have a massive impact on their top-four finish.
But it’s hard not to think about the small matter of the Champions League final in Kiev, isn’t it?
They asked him about Jurgen Klopp’s role on guiding Liverpool to the final, and the former Newcastle goal-eater replied: “Yeah it’s an achievement but he won’t be happy. Nobody will remember the game unless Liverpool go on to win it.
“They’ve got the tools to win it, it’s going to be a shootout. When you look at the two defences, both poor, both concede goals, but look at the forwards.
“Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, Firmino, Mane, Salah – player of the year and rightly so. It is going to be a shootout and I think we’re pretty much guaranteed goals.”
Fair enough, I suppose.
But can Liverpool win it, Alan?
“Oh absolutely Liverpool can do it, with that front three, the attacking talent that they have. We’ve said it in every round, with those guys you have a chance.
“Real Madrid will be looking at it the exact the same way with the players they have going forward.
“And the advantage that Real Madrid have is they have big game experience. They have players who have played in World Cup finals, in Champions League finals, European Championship finals.
“Liverpool are novices going into this, and Jurgen Klopp will have a huge job in just trying to settle his players down the week before the game.
“Real Madrid will be favourites just because of that.”
