Foden defended for staying at City
Phil Foden’s decision to stay at Manchester City has been backed by Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam.
The teenager, regarded as the hottest prospect to come out of City’s academy, has played five times for the Blues this season and scored his first senior goal for the club in the recent Carabao Cup win over Oxford United.
Foden’s form for City earned him an England Under-21 call-up for the games against Andorra and Scotland but his inclusion by Aidy Boothroyd has gone under the radar following Gareth Southgate’s decision to name Jadon Sancho in his senior squad.
Sancho has received plenty of praise for his decision to quit City in 2017 to join Borussia Dortmund, where he has thrived away from the spotlight.
The former Watford youth-team player has notched nine assists for Dortmund already this season and has featured far more prominently for them than Foden has for City.
However, ex-Liverpool player Adam believes Foden has made the right decision by staying at City.
