How Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers feels about January transfer window so far | Football | Sport
Celtic only had Odsoone Edouard available for the Old Firm Derby in December and were in desperate need of some reinforcements.
They’ve since secured the signings of Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah on loan, while they’ve also snapped up Vakoun Issouf Bayo in a permanent deal.
Celtic sit top of the Scottish Premiership with Rangers and Kilmarnock hot on their heels, with just a point separating the three sides.
Rangers, meanwhile, have signed Premier League legend Jermaine Defoe and have secured pre-contract agreements for Jordan Jones and Glen Kamara.
Steven Davis has also joined the Gers on a six-month loan deal.
But Sky Sports News reporter Charles Patterson has claimed that Rodgers is content with his side’s January business.
“Brendan Rodgers is happy now because he has options up front which he didn’t have prior to this winter break,” he said.
“Odsonne Edouard was his only striker available for the Old Firm game against Rangers and he wasn’t even fit.
“He started on the bench in that game, Leigh Griffiths is out for the forseeable future with personal issues but now he has options in attack.
“He has Oliver Burke on loan until the end of the season and Timothy Weah, and now Bayo who has signed permanently on a four-year contract.
“We spoke to Brendan Rodgers earlier on here in Dubai at the Celtic team hotel. As far as Brendan Rodgers is concerned, it’s business as usual.”
Patterson also spoke about the future of Scott Brown, who’s rumoured to be nearing the end of his time in Glasgow.
“Scott Brown has an offer on the table from West Melbourne, the new A League franchise. Brown’s contract at Celtic expires at the end of the season and he hasn’t signed a new one,” he said.
“He’s here, leading by example in training in the heat. I spoke to him briefly off camera on Monday and he wasn’t revealing anything.
“He’s not been put up for interview at all.”
Patterson also noted that, although Rodgers was satisfied with the transfer window, he wouldn’t be stopping there.
“Brendan Rodgers is quite content to have him here and that will play out as and when Scott Brown decides one way or the other,” he added.
“What Brendan Rodgers did say, though, was Celtic’s January transfer window is not over in terms of new signings. He wants more new signings.”
