Celtic news: Brendan Rodgers reveals why he was UNHAPPY during St Johnstone thrashing | Football | Sport

Celtic have won their last 24 domestic cup games in a row after the drubbing of St. Johnstone on Sunday.

However, manager Rodgers has revealed why we wasn’t totally happy during the convincing victory.

“It was an outstanding result for us and for long parts of the game we played really well,” Rodgers told Premier Sports.

“Like I said before the game, I felt this was a game that would reveal the mentality and character of the team having played St Johnstone four times before this is the fifth time.

“So I thought we played very well up until 25 minutes, then we go 2-0 up and we seemed to lose our shape, and our positioning.

“Then it was a little bit bitty so I wasn’t pleased at half time even though we had played well for the first 25 minutes.”

Rodgers wasn’t happy with how his side performed in the latter stages of the first-half, but the former Liverpool boss was glad with how his side responded after the break.

He added: ”The second half we just needed to control the positioning of the game and from that we were better second half so we got another three goals.

“I’ve only been here two and a half years so the identity of the team is how we want it to be in terms of pressing the game, working for every second of the game, being organised, being focused on having the ball and playing with a good structure to create chances.

“It was a wonderful demonstration of that, the pitch is a wee bit bobbly out there so once it comes round again we’ll get quicker.

“It’s the efforts of the players, the mentality, the hunger, you seen that in the performance.”

As well as progression in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup, Celtic remain six points clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
