Patrick Kluivert: I want Liverpool to beat Man City to title because of these two players | Football | Sport
Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum have played prominent roles for Liverpool this season.
Van Dijk has started all 26 of the Reds’ Premier League games so far.
Wijnaldum has started 21 of them and scored a delightful chipped goal in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Liverpool are currently second in the table, behind Manchester City on goal difference.
Jurgen Klopp’s side do have a game in hand but Netherlands legend Kluivert says it will still be a tough task finishing above City.
But he is hoping his Dutch compatriots Van Dijk and Wijnaldum can get the job done.
“Well, in Liverpool they have two Dutch players of course, so for me Liverpool can win the title,” he said on Sky Sports.
“It’s a very big challenge for them because I think Manchester City are really putting the gas on the peddle.”
City brushed aside Chelsea on Sunday to return to the top of the table.
Kluivert says Pep Guardiola’s men thoroughly deserved the 6-0 win over Chelsea.
And he claimed the most impressive part of City’s play was how they set up when they have not got the ball.
“I think that City dominated the game,” Kluivert continued.
“If you see when they don’t have the ball, the pressure that they make is impressive.
“The long balls then come from Chelsea and the second balls always are for Manchester City.
“I think that really they deserved the win, they actually battered Chelsea.
“Chelsea didn’t really have an answer to the playing style of Manchester City.”
