Arsenal news: Mesut Ozil sale underway as clubs contacted about interest | Football | Sport
Ozil appeared set to play a prominent role for Arsenal under Unai Emery at the start of the season.
But it has been the complete opposite with Ozil either omitted from squads or left on the bench by Emery.
The Spanish manager has attempted to get more work rate from the 30-year-old but the pleas have not been taken onboard.
And it means the midfielder, who was handed a contract worth £350,000-a-week last January, faces an uncertain future.
But according to the Telegraph, people are already working to secure a move away for Ozil in the summer.
The report says “middle men” have been sounding out clubs about signing Ozil but his salary demands are set to be a big “obstacle”.
It is claimed that the intermediaries are not linked with Arsenal but the board will listen if a proposal is made.
Moves to China and Italy are mentioned as possible destinations for Ozil.
Meanwhile, former Gunner Emmanuel Petit feels Ozil has not shown enough respect towards Arsenal.
“Ozil is not the same any more,” he told Football London.
“His commitment must be higher for the club. The club I think has shown him respect beyond the limits.
“They give him the moment he was asking for and they deserve an answer back. I think it’s time for him to pay it back.
“Everyone has seen what’s been going on with Ozil for the last three years in the Premier League. He’s lost his motivation, it’s not there any more. If I’m wrong, then show me on the pitch.
“I think what happened during the World Cup hurt him a lot, as a person. That destroyed something in his head.
“But even before the World Cup, he was not the world champion on the pitch any more.
“He used to play a great game sometimes, but only once every four of five games.
“I hope that I’m wrong because I really like the player and the person.
“I wish him the best, but I think the only man who can change his situation is Ozil himself. That’s it.”
