Cornerback Noah Boykin set to transfer

10views

Originally a 4-star recruit out of Washington D.C., cornerback Noah Boykin has decided to move on from the Notre Dame football program.

Touted as one of the better recruits Notre Dame football has landed in the 2018 recruiting class, Boykin has decided to enter his name into the transfer portal.

In the five-man CB class Notre Dame landed in 2018, Boykin was ranked second behind now-starter Houston Griffith. Rivals rated him as the No. 21 cornerback in the country, while 247Sports had him No. 25.

Boykin now becomes the second player of the 2018 freshman class to leave the team. Former center Luke Jones announced his departure last week.

While Boykin was an exciting prospect, it never seemed that he fit at Notre Dame. Boykin was not the type of kid Notre Dame traditionally recruits. In fact, he shocked many people — including Notre Dame — when he committed.

Boykin never made his impact felt on the cornerback depth chart and was looking to be the third boundary corner at best this season.

Houston Griffith has been far-and-away the starter for a while now and Notre Dame is adding more bodies into the mix seemingly daily. Shaun Crawford and Donte Vaughn also return this year, along with former quarterback/running back Avery Davis.

Notre Dame also has freshman-commits Isaiah Rutherford and K.J. Wallace entering the mix for playing time and it appears Boykin’s decision to leave may be in both parties’ best interest.

It is unclear where Boykin will end up, but he is a great talent and athlete and will end up making in impact at a solid division one program this season. A redshirt this past year, Boykin transfers to his new school with four years of eligibility.
