Everton news and transfers LIVE – Barcelona could test resolve over Richarlison, Blues-linked striker gives update on future
Blues must be patient with Kenny
So says our EFC correspondent Phil Kirkbride who believes that Everton should remain patient in regards to the development of homegrown hero Jonjoe Kenny who has yet to displace Seamus Coleman as first choice right-back on a regular basis.
There was a point this season in which the balance looked as though it had tipped.
On January 1, Leicester City were the visitors to Goodison and Jonjoe Kenny was picked to start ahead of Seamus Coleman.
Injury had not played a part. Kenny started, Coleman was on the bench and Marco Silva spoke in the days after about how he was “not afraid” to make more big calls in the future.
After several weeks of concern over the faltering form of Coleman, it felt as though the Everton manager had made a concrete decision that could send both careers in opposite directions.
Sadly for Kenny, nothing was set in stone.
He was back on the bench for the following game and not even in the squad for the match after that.
He was a used substitute twice, then started two games in a row, but has only featured once in the last seven fixtures.
Kenny, understandably, may well feel like he doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going.
And, maybe, that’s the decision he faces this summer – to stay or to go.
