Man City player ratings vs Tottenham: De Bruyne injured as Foden stars but defender gets 4 | Football | Sport

City moved a point clear of Liverpool at the top of the table after a narrow 1-0 win over Tottenham at the Etihad.

Phil Foden scored the only goal of the game, diving in to head home Sergio Aguero’s knock-down and notch his first Premier League strike.

Son Heung-min was denied twice by Ederson while Aguero and Raheem Sterling went close for the home side in an even contest.

While City all be delighted with the three points, they come at a cost after Kevin De Bruyne was forced off with a knee injury in the first half.

Express Sport have rated how the Manchester City players performed during their clash with Tottenham, but do you agree?

Manchester City player ratings vs Tottenham Hotspur – Premier League

GK: Ederson – 7

Made a couple of big saves in the first half to deny Son and once again demonstrated his excellent distribution.

Stood tall after the break when the Spurs striker was clean through again, combining with Stones to keep out the South Korean.

RB: Kyle Walker – 4

An impressive athlete but looks lost when he gets into the final third.

Ballooned one effort well over the bar and wasted a number of opportunities with awful crosses before getting away with a second-half handball in his own area.

CB: John Stones – 5

Got away with a sloppy moment early on, giving the ball away to Son then getting skinned for pace.

Sorted himself out afterwards and helped restrict Spurs to few chances, although the Englishman did look vulnerable to Spurs’ direct approach.

CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7

Made up for his horror show in midweek with a determined display, tracking Son and pulling off one excellent sliding challenge to snuff out danger.

Good on the ball and exuded confidence – a real return to form.

LB: Oleksandr Zinchenko – 6

Saw plenty of possession out on the left, although the Ukrainian struggled to hold his width as he went looking for the ball.

Combined well with Sterling and wasn’t troubled defensively.

CM: Ilkay Gundogan – 6

Showed some lovely touches to retain possession in a frenetic opening and tried to provide more of an attacking spark after De Bruyne’s injury.

CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 5

Was superb in midweek and started in a similar vein, going close with one effort from outside the box before limping off with what looked like a knee injury.

CM: Phil Foden – 7

Great anticipation to pop up at the back post and nod home his first Premier League goal.

Snapped into plenty of tackles early on and looked sharp in possession, although the youngster was almost caught dithering by Ben Davies on one occasion.

RAM: Bernardo Silva – 8

The stand-out attacker for City, with Silva always looking to take on the opposition and provide a dangerous delivery.

Worked Paulo Gazzaniga with an effort on his left and seemed the most likely to cause trouble.

LAM: Raheem Sterling – 5

Had the beating of Juan Foyth in the early exchanges but was shackled well thereafter and endured a frustrating afternoon as he was crowded out.

Denied from close range by an instinctive Gazzaniga stop.

ST: Sergio Aguero – 6

Brilliant header across goal set up the opener and was denied by a fantastic Toby Alderweireld block.

Took a clattering off Jan Vertonghen and kept plugging away, although he didn’t get a clear sight of goal and was withdrawn just after the hour.
