What Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has done after Joe Worrall Celtic video emerged | Football | Sport

The defender was filmed saying “f*** the Celtic” after attending the Ibrox club’s player of the year ceremony in Glasgow earlier this month.

Manager Gerrard took a dim view of Worrall’s actions and called a meeting with his squad to discuss the standard of behaviour that he expects from them.

On the Worrall clip, which was widely distributed on social media, Gerrard said: “I have seen it and I have spoken to the players about it.

“We will deal with that internally but I have made it quite clear I was unhappy about it and about the conduct.

“Hopefully after the words said to the players, situations like that won’t happen again. If they do, players will be severely punished for it.

“Look, at a players’ awards night, especially with the time off we gave them after it, the players are entitled to enjoy themselves, have a good night and be in the company of the supporters, who were excellent on the night.

“I am not one of these managers who wants them to live indoors and not come out. We give them the respect they deserve and we expect the same respect back.

“They have to take responsibility for their own behaviour on a night out. That’s it.”

Rangers can stop Celtic winning the league this weekend if they beat Hearts.

The Hoops are 11 points clear of their Glaswegian arch-rivals at present.

Rangers have an eight-point buffer between themselves and third-place Kilmarnock.

Rangers left-back Borna Barisic is fit again and available for today’s trip to face Hearts at Tynecastle.

Jambos defender John Souttar is on Rangers’ radar.

Meanwhile, Steven Davis has revealed he wants to sign a permanent deal with Rangers.

The on-loan midfielder’s contract with Southampton expires in the summer.

Davis said: “I’m confident I will be here next season. I want to be here as well as the manager wanting me.”
