They may have missed out of the Scottish Premiership title to their Old Firm rivals, but Steven Gerrard’s side restored some pride when they beat Celtic 2-0 at Ibrox.
While they have continued to keep the heat on caretaker manager Neil Lennon’s side, they will need to find a way to make up the ground on them next season.
According to former Rangers boss Alex McLeish, the defeat has left Celtic feeling like they have some work to do.
“They’ve certainly given Celtic food for thought,” McLeish told Love Sport Radio.

“Let’s face it, you hear Guardiola saying how much he owes to Klopp because of the phenomenal finish to the English Premier League and the amount of points that those two teams got and that’s what happens with Rangers and Celtic.
“Given that Celtic lost that game rather meekly, preparing for a cup final and maybe with a few tired legs and maybe not focusing as much as they would be, they might think they need to be looking at their recruitment.”
Changes are expected to be made in the summer at Celtic Park as they embark on a new era without Brendan Rodgers.
Celtic hero Chris Sutton attempted to ruffle some feathers after last weekend’s defeat to Rangers, claiming that the result means nothing.
“Celtic played as though this game was meaningless, because that’s exactly what it was,” he told the Daily Record.
“Fair play to Rangers. They were at it all afternoon, it was an impressive performance and I’m sure they enjoyed it.
“No doubt there will be a DVD of the game out by the end of the week.
Rafael Benitez is the bookies favourite to be in charge of Celtic for the first game of next season as he continues talks with Newcastle over a new contract.
Lennon is hoping to keep his job but the board are yet to make a decision over his future.
They now face their final game of the league campaign at home to Hearts on Sunday, before taking them on again in the Scottish Cup final next Saturday.
