Why Liverpool fans are FUMING at transfer that does NOT involve Reds | Football | Sport
The former Bristol City left back sealed a £13m move to Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth today, despite Jurgen Klopp’s side being heavily linked with a move for the 20-year-old as the summer transfer window approached.
The England Under-21 international made 34 appearances for the Robins last season as Lee Johnson’s side missed out on the Championship play-off semi-finals by just four points.
Lloyd has now made the move to the top flight, admitting a desire for regular football influenced his decision to move to the Vitality Stadium.
He told afcbTV: “It’s a fantastic club. The move has come around quite quickly, but I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to start playing.
“Premier League football is what I’ve always wanted to achieve. I want to play as many games as possible and I feel like this is the right place for me to try and do that.”
Liverpool fans were less impressed with the switch however, after many were confident a move for the English full back would kick off the Reds’ summer spending.
One fan wrote on Twitter: “Now we got to pretend that we didn’t want some random Bristol defender.”
Another added: “@LFC what you playing at?”
“HOW ARE WE LETTING BOURNEMOUTH NAB HIM,” posted a third.
“Sort it out @LFC, mugging me off here,” wrote one fan.
A fifth fan added: “I’m actually gutted @LFC didn’t sign Lloyd Kelly, he looks like a very good prospect.”
One man that was pleased with the signing of the Bristol City academy product was Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.
After the signing was announced, he told the club’s official website: “Lloyd is an exciting talent and a player of real potential, while at the same time already possessing good experience for someone so young.
“He is athletic, versatile, physically excellent and has a very bright future ahead of him.
“I’m delighted that we have been able to strike so early in the summer and look forward to working with Lloyd during the coming seasons.”
