Celtic choose TWO transfer targets after Neil Lennon scouting mission – ONE deal scrapped | Football | Sport
Lennon helped guide Celtic to their eight consecutive SPL title this season, in which the Hoops were initially managed by Brendan Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman is expected to be reappointed as the club’s permanent manager and has already begun looking for reinforcements.
Amongst the players being scouted by the club is West Brom’s 19-year-old midfielder Rakeem Harper, who is out of contract at the end of the month.
Harper had an impressive season with the Baggies, making 24 appearances and scoring one goal.
Albion are keen on retaining the youngster’s services and have offered him a bumper new deal.
Harper, however, is stalling on signing a new contract at the Hawthorns, which has prompted Celtic to contemplate launching a summer bid for him.
Lennon watched Harper, who is also being tracked by Tottenham, last week in the Baggie’s play-off semi-final defeat to Aston Villa a week ago.
And it’s since emerged Harper’s representatives were at Parkhead last Sunday to watch Celtic lift the SPL trophy.
Also on Lennon’s radar is Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori, a 21-year-old centre-back on loan at Derby County.
Tomori, who was on loan at Hull last season, has been immense for the Rams this season and played a key role in them reaching the play-off final.
Celtic’s pursuit of the defender could be scuppered if Derby are promoted, in which case they’ll turn their attention to other defensive targets.
It promises to be a busy summer at Celtic Park, with a slew of players set to be ushered out of the door.
And Hoops skipper Scott Brown has admitted there will plenty of new faces at the club come the start of the 2019-20 season.
Brown said: “There will be a clear-out at the end of the season and a lot of people will be leaving and there will be a lot of new faces coming in as well.
“There’s a lot of lads who have been here a long time that love being here and have won a lot of trophies and I think that’s what makes this club special.
“The lads have a lot of love and passion for the club and for the fans as well.”
