Man Utd insider reveals Ed Woodward and staff anger at Paul Pogba transfer comments | Football | Sport
Manchester United star Pogba is attracting interest from Real Madrid and Juventus after a testing campaign at Old Trafford.
The France international produced his best season for the Red Devils on the pitch with 13 Premier League goals and nine assists.
However, the Manchester United star angered fans with what they perceive to be a lackadaisical attitude and lack of fight.
On Friday, Pogba sent shockwaves around the club when he hinted he wanted to leave, saying: “Like you said, there is a lot of talking and a lot of thinking as well.
“For me I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great; some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody. Like everywhere else.
“After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well… I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else.
“I am thinking of this: to have a new challenge somewhere else.”
And the Daily Mail say Woodward and other members of the United hierarchy have been distinctly unimpressed by the 26-year-old’s comments.
A source is quoted as saying: “It is safe to say that they are distinctly unimpressed with it.
“But as far as they’re concerned Pogba will be at the club next season.”
United are adamant their star performer will be going nowhere.
And Real Madrid are aware that any transfer will be difficult – though feel a deal can be struck for £133million.
The Daily Mail add that the United brass are ‘perplexed’ at Pogba for making the comments while on a tour with Adidas.
Adidas are United’s kit sponsors – and also Real’s – and the timing has not gone down well.
Pogba’s outburst has come after three years at United where he has failed to live up to the hype.
Jose Mourinho signed him from Juventus in 2016 adamant he could be his midfield general at Old Trafford.
But the duo’s relationship deteriorated prior to the Portuguese’s sacking in December.
Pogba improved when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the reins around Christmas time.
But the United star’s form tailed off towards the end of the season and, now, the club have a big decision to make.
