Man Utd, Liverpool and Tottenham all offered Donny van de Beek transfer hope – ‘He’s keen’ | Football | Sport
Van de Beek was one of the stand-out performers of an Ajax side that won the domestic double, with the Eredivisie title and the KNVB Cup, and also reached the Champions League semi-finals.
The 22-year-old managed 17 goals and 13 assists having played as an attack-minded midfielder for Erik den Tag’s men.
Van der Kraan believes the Netherlands international is perfectly suited to the robustness and intensity of the Premier League and says Champions League winners Liverpool and runners-up Tottenham are among the clubs keen on his services, having watched him throughout the last season.
But Van de Beek is said to only be a second choice for many of the interested clubs, as the football expert revealed the player would most want a move to England.
“Indeed, van de Beek is probably the biggest chance of having a move,” Van der Kraan said of the Ajax contingent who could depart Amsterdam this summer.
“If I had to put my money on one I’d say, Donny van de Beek will go at some stage this summer.
“He is a perfect back-up for many clubs. I know he’s not the number one for many clubs.
“I’ve seen scouts from Tottenham, Man Utd, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle all at the Amsterdam ArenA looking at him.
“They’ve turned up no end of times looking at other players but we know from the agent the player has been looked at. They’ve all weighed him up.
“He’s an ideal player for the Premier League, he’s got the skills like most Ajax players, he’s got a big tank, he can run all day.
“But all these clubs have a priority list and van de Beek seems the perfect back-up for the big clubs.
“They have a No 1 but not all the clubs can sign their No 1 so van de Beek is waiting patiently. If it comes right, he’ll do it.
“I think he’s keen for the Premier League, more than the German or Italian leagues.”
Asked about speculation regarding his future with Ajax, van de Beek said to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo at the UEFA Nations League earlier this month: ”I have a contract with Ajax, now I’m focused on the national team.
”It’s nice that my name is associated with Barcelona, I have to play better, better and better and we’ll see in the future, you never know what can happen.”
The Ajax side is set to lose multiple key players this summer, with centre-back and captain Matthijs de Ligt heavily linked with Manchester United, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
Midfielder Frenkie de Jong has agreed a £65m move to Barca, while Hakim Ziyech, David Neres and Andre Onana are among the other talents touted for moves away from de Godenzonen.
