Why Chelsea will choose Frank Lampard ahead of Massimiliano Allegri – Ray Parlour | Football | Sport
That is the opinion of former Arsenal and England midfielder Ray Parlour.
Lampard is the overwhelming favourite to become the next Chelsea boss after just one season in management.
The former Blues midfielder led Derby County to the Championship play-off final, where they lost to Aston Villa.
Former Chelsea youth coach Jody Morris, who is Lampard’s assistant at Derby, is set to follow the 40-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
Parlour believes the duo’s knowledge of the Chelsea youngsters puts Lampard ahead of the likes of Allegri.
Allegri left Juventus at the end of last season after leading the club to their eighth straight Serie A title.
But with Chelsea set to be banned from signing players this summer, Parlour reckons Chelsea believe Lampard would be a better fit for them at the moment.
“He had a very good season at Derby,” Parlour said on talkSPORT.
“He could potentially be an excellent manager.
“There’s one thing about Frank – he will get a chance.
“I think Frank would get much of a chance than Allegri.
“Allegri might not want the job because of the transfer ban.
“Obviously Frank and Jody Morris have worked with a lot of the youngsters at Chelsea, knows them very well.
“I think that they will go with Frank Lampard, I really do.
“I think he’s showed enough in his first season at Derby.”
