Man Utd hero Wayne Rooney reveals one mistake Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made | Football | Sport

The former Manchester United striker admitted he admires Jurgen Klopp but insists he made a mistake joining Liverpool.

The 52-year-old German coach left Borussia Dortmund in 2015 to undertake the project of managing at Anfield.

After losing out in a couple of cup finals in his first year at the club, and coming up short against Real Madrid in the Champions League final in their 2017/18 campaign, Klopp secured his first silverware with the club after winning the same competition last season, with a 2-0 win over Tottenham in Madrid.

The transformation he has overseen at Liverpool has won the German coach many plaudits, including Wayne Rooney, who admits seeing his success at the Reds has been difficult to take.

“Jurgen is a manager every player would love playing for,” Rooney told German publication Sport Bild.

“You can see how much fun his players have playing under him.

“I met him once, he is an amazing guy.

“His only mistake is that he works for LFC and is successful there.

“I have much respect for Jurgen Klopp and for what he already has achieved. Not only in Liverpool, but also in Dortmund.

“This guy really has it. And he has his best years still upon him.”

Rooney not only has a rivalry with Liverpool from his time at United but also from his previous club Everton.

The Liverpudlian came through the Toffees academy but didn’t have to wait long to make his professional debut for the club as aged 16 he took to the field in 2002.

After two seasons with Everton he secured a move to United for £25million and went on to spend 13 years at the club.

Rooney won 16 trophies during his spell in Manchester, including five Premier League titles, before returning to Goodison Park in 2017.

After one season with Everton he secured a move to the United States to play for DC United in June 2018, where he signed a three-and-a-half-year deal.

In his first season Rooney was named the Talon’s most valuable player and golden boot winner, after he scored 12 goals in 21 games and he carried his form into this season, after finding the back of the net 11 times in 19 matches for the club.
