Bruges target Victor Wanyama as Tottenham ace eyes switch weeks after failed West Ham move | Football | Sport
The Belgian club are poised to make a move for the £18million-rated Kenya international before the end of the European transfer deadline on September 2.
The 28-year-old, who has slipped down the pecking order at White Hart Lane under manager Mauricio Pochettino, has not figured this season so far and made only four starts last year.
Wanyama, who still has two years left on his £65,000-a week-contract, wants a move, but his high wages could prove a problem.
The Belgian club do though have money in the bank after selling midfielder Marvelous Nakamba to Aston Villa, and Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld to Bournemouth this summer.
Injury problems over the last two years, and the arrival at Tottenham this summer of Tanguy Ndombele from Marseille had seen Wanyama, who joined Spurs from Southampton in 2016, fall behind the likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Eric Dier and Oliver Skipp even before Ndombele’s arrival.
West Ham made a move to take Wanyama on loan before the English transfer deadline closed, but that move fell through.

Before the season started, Pochettino spoke about some of his players’ futures with the club, including left-back Danny Rose.
“I told you in Singapore and China. I think I was very clear about the situation of the squad,” he said.
“Danny Rose like another 25 or 26 players are here and are my players.
“I don’t know what I need to say because I was very clear in the past.”
