The Reds rode their luck against Southampton on Saturday but eventually secured a 2-1 win away from home, sending them back to the summit alongside Arsenal.

The Gunners had earlier seen off Burnley by the same score at the Emirates, continuing their winning start to the campaign under Unai Emery.

Meanwhile, Paul Pogba hit the headlines on Monday night when he missed a penalty against Wolves – squandering Manchester United’s chance of securing all three points at Molineux.

Elsewhere, Sheffield United and Everton both picked up their first victories of the campaign while Leicester came from behind to secure a point at Chelsea – but which players made our Express Sport Team of the Week?

Premier League Team of the Week – GW2

GKP: Rui Patricio (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Paul Pogba’s penalty miss may have caught the headlines, but Rui Patricio still needed to save the powerful effort and secured a share of the spoils for his Wolves side.

RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United)

Aaron Wan-Bissaka already looks an excellent signing due to his supreme defensive attributes, with the young right-back making nine successful tackles at Molineux.

The former Crystal Palace ace is also gaining confidence in attack and looked a threat in the final third.

CB: Jack O’Connell (Sheffield United)

The Blades were well worth the three points against Crystal Palace but were indebted to a huge performance from Jack O’Connell and his defensive team-mates.

The centre-back shackled Christian Benteke and did not look troubled by Wilfried Zaha as Sheffield United continued their impressive start to the season.

CB: Caglar Soyuncu (Leicester City)

The Turkish defender has been thrown in at the deep end this season following the departure of Harry Maguire, but Caglar Soyuncu went toe-to-toe with Chelsea’s array of attacking talent and came out on top.

The 23-year-old wasn’t afraid to get to grips with his opponents and looks to have secured his long-term future in the first team with a battling display at Stamford Bridge.

LB: Lucas Digne (Everton)

Identified as one of Everton’s star men before the season started, and Lucas Digne lived up to that billing with an all-action display against Watford.

The Frenchman provided a brilliant assist for Bernard to score the winner and fans will hope the injury he suffered in the closing stages is not too serious.

CM: John Lundstram (Sheffield United)

John Lundstram was not expected to feature in the Blades midfield this season but impressed during pre-season and has hit the ground running in the top-flight.

The 25-year-old was tidy in possession and showed good creativity to set up David McGoldrick before hitting the winner against the Eagles.

CM: Dani Ceballos (Arsenal)

Dani Ceballos made a fantastic impression on the Premier League with a couple of excellent assists as Arsenal saw off Burnley at the Emirates.

The Real Madrid loanee has already added an touch of class to the Gunners midfield and could prove a superb signing.

CM: Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)

Kevin de Bruyne bagged a couple of assists against Tottenham but that doesn’t tell the whole story with the Belgian a a constant menace to the Spurs rearguard as he dominated the midfield battle.

Pep Guardiola handed his star midfielder the captain’s armband for Saturday’s clash, and it will now be imperative that the 28-year-old stays fit for the rest of the season.

RAM: James Maddison (Leicester City)

James Maddison caught the eye last season with some outstanding displays at the heart of the Leicester midfield and the 22-year-old picked up where he left off against Chelsea.

He ran Cesar Azpilicueta ragged, created the Foxes’ equaliser and could well have scored the winner.

LAM: Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Sadio Mane barely had a rest this summer with Senegal getting all the way to the Africa Cup of Nations final but he was one of the sharpest players on the pitch as Liverpool laboured to a 2-1 win over Southampton.

The forward scored a brilliant goal against his former club and also provided the assist for the other as Liverpool maintained their winning start to the campaign.

ST: Teemu Pukki (Norwich City)

Teemu Pukki scored a superb hat-trick against Newcastle, including a rasping right-footed volley, to add to his strike on the opening day of the season against Liverpool.

The Finn’s work-rate also caught the eye at Carrow Road as he ran the Magpies ragged, and his form will be vital if Norwich are to beat the drop.
