Silva on why he signed Delph
Marco SIlva has opened up on Everton’s decision to sign Fabian Delph, and challenged the rest of his squad to follow in the midfielder’s footsteps.
The former Man City man has impressed since moving to Goodison in the summer, but the Blues boss isn’t surprised at his start.
And Silva’s told the club’s website he has the same high expectations of all his players.
When we looked at our squad last season, we saw some important things Fabian could add.
Not just his football qualities… he can give us different things and will be an important player for us.
But what I want from Fabian, I want from the others, too. I demand it from the others.
I don’t just want it in that position from Fabian – it is really important midfield players, everyone in the central zone, have that leadership and can command the team in some moments.
What I am demanding from Fabian, I want the same from Andre [Gomes], the same from Morgan [Schneiderlin] and from Michael Keane and Yerry Mina.
And from our goalkeeper. The positions in the central zone are really important and we need players in there with the capacity to lead.
I don’t want to put the focus only on Fabian because I want the others to come and take responsibility as well.
Since Fabian signed with us, I said how he will be important.
It is something you want when you sign a player, they have to be able to give something to us, to strengthen our squad.
We have many good examples in our dressing room.
If you have five, six or seven leaders during the match, it will be easier for us. And that is what I want.
