Liverpool get the better of Wolves’ under-23s in thriller as Rhian Brewster stars for Reds
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ under-23s were beaten by Liverpool in a seven-goal Premier League 2 thriller today (Sunday).
The result saw the Reds leapfrog the Wolves youngsters, who are now ninth in the under-23 table, with eight points from eight matches.
Under-17 World Cup Golden Boot winner Rhian Brewster fired Liverpool into a 19th-minute lead, before Benny Ashley-Seal was denied an equaliser when he went clear but could not beat Ben Winterbottom in the home goal.
But Ashley-Seal would get his goal before the break, dusting himself off after being fouled in the box to convert the penalty.

Liverpool were back in front instantly, courtesy of Herbie Kane.
Winterbottom made several saves to deny Wolves another equaliser at the start of the second half – and Brewster then flicked home a header to make it 3-1.
A deflected Leighton Clarkson header for Liverpool then looked to have put the result beyond doubt when it found the net.
Wolves’ response was admirable, though.
Ashley-Seal notched his second of the game to make it 4-2, and substitute Boubacar Hanne then netted in the 89th minute to set up a dramatic finale.
There was to be no last-gasp equaliser, though, meaning a fourth defeat of the season for Wolves’ under-23s.
They are next in action at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
