Liverpool news: Fans tease Man Utd with ‘going down’ chant after draw | Football | Sport
United now sit just two points above the relegation zone after nine games while Liverpool hold a six-point lead atop the Premier League.
After Lallana salvaged a draw in the 85th minute, Liverpool fans celebrated by mocking their rivals.
“Going down, going down, going down,” they chanted after stripping United of what looked set to be their third league win of the season.
The away section at Old Trafford were intent on taking advantage of United’s current rut and rubbed their recent European success in the faces of home supporters all afternoon.
Following their Champions League success in May – the club’s sixth European Cup – the supporters chanted “Champions of Europe” over and over again.
They also took the time to inform United “You’re f****** s***” following the Red Devils’ worst start to a league season in 30 years.
Alongside their voiced taunts, Liverpool fans brought props to remind their rivals of their recent success.
Many incumbents of the away section brought inflatable number six balloons to celebrate their haul of European Cups – in comparison to United’s three.
Almost every fan also had a printed card with the number six on it, which were held up in unison at points.
United fans nonetheless left largely satisfied with their side’s performance, applauding the team off the pitch.
The Red Devils next face Partizan Belgrade away in the Premier League on Thursday before travelling to Norwich next Sunday.
