England teams news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Montenegro after Sterling and Gomez bust-up | Football | Sport

England manager Gareth Southgate has dropped Raheem Sterling from England’s upcoming clash with Montenegro following an altercation with Joe Gomez.

The duo were involved in a heated exchange during the closing stages of Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City last Sunday, and Sterling renewed the argument when the pair reported for international duty on Monday.

The City winger has since taken to Instagram to downplay the incident, confirming that a bust-up did occur but that he and Gomez have now cleared the air.

Southgate moved quickly to announce Sterling would not play against Montenegro, although the 24-year-old is still in contention to feature when England take on Kosovo on Sunday.

Borussia Dortmund ace Jason Sancho is most likely to deputise out wide as the Three Lions look to secure qualification from Group A for next summer’s tournament.

Southgate’s side need just one point from their two remaining matches, having most recently battered Bulgaria 6-0 last month in a meeting marred by racist chanting from Bulgarian fans.

Captain Harry Kane should lead the line while Marcus Rashford is expected to complete the front three, with both players having scored in Sofia last time out.

Jordan Henderson and Harry Winks are favourites to line up in central midfield while they could be joined by either Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or James Maddison after excellent recent form for their respective clubs.

Ben Chilwell is expected to get the nod over Danny Rose at left-back while Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold are in competition for a spot on the opposite side of defence.

Harry Maguire is an almost certain pick in central defence but Michael Keane has been dropped so Tyrone Mings, Gomez or the recalled John Stones should line up alongside the Manchester United defender.

Finally, Jordan Pickford will start in goal ahead of Nick Pope and the recently called-up Dean Henderson, with the Sheffield United stopper standing in for Tom Heaton.

Dele Alli, Jack Grealish, Jesse Lingard and Kyle Walker have been overlooked again while Ross Barkley is ruled out due to injury but has not been replaced.

England predicted line-up vs Montenegro – Euro 2020 qualifier

(4-3-3): Pickford; Trippier, Maguire, Mings, Chilwell; Winks, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Sancho, Rashford, Kane
