Arsenal news: Danny Murphy predicts who will finish higher between Gunners and Tottenham | Football | Sport
Tottenham will finish above north London rivals Arsenal this season, claims former Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy.
Tottenham are currently 14th in the Premier League table 12 matches into the campaign.
They are just three points behind the Gunners though, who sit in sixth spot.
Tottenham ended a run of 24 years without finishing above Arsenal in 2017 and have now done so three seasons in a row.
But Murphy says there are clear problems at Tottenham, claiming manager Mauricio Pochettino does not know his best XI anymore.
The pundit says it was wrong for Spurs to sell right-back Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid in the summer without replacing him.
But Murphy still reckons things are not as bleak as they are at Arsenal and is backing his old side to be above the Gunners come the end of the campaign.
“I don’t think [Pochettino’s] got a best team anymore, I don’t think he’s got a set formation that he sticks with, which he used to,” Murphy said on talkSPORT.
“Two years ago Tottenham played 4-2-3-1 generally. That season where they had [Mousa] Dembele and [Victor] Wanyama holding, then [Eric] Dier took [Victor] Wanyama’s place, but fundamentally it was the same.
“Two defenders helping out [Jan] Vertonghen and [Toby] Alderweireld. A box of four players that was really solid.
“They had the joint best defensive record for two years. They had good full-backs, selling [Kieran] Trippier and not replacing him was a strange one.
“I think he’s trying to recover their form but instead of simplifying it, he’s complicating it.
“I think there’s a lot of players there who are struggling on confidence.
“Saying that, I still think they’re in a better situation than Arsenal, which will please a lot of Arsenal fans I’m sure.
“I think they’ll finish above Arsenal.”
