Liverpool news: Reds backed to make ‘world-record’ signing to replace Roberto Firmino | Football | Sport
Harry Kane would get into the Liverpool team in place of Roberto Firmino – but it would take a world-record transfer fee to buy the Tottenham man, claims former Reds and Spurs midfielder Danny Murphy.
Murphy was discussing which team could sign Kane if he were to leave boyhood club Tottenham.
He reckons both Liverpool and Manchester City would find a space for the England captain in their side.
Murphy says Kane is better than Liverpool No 9 Firmino, despite the Brazilian earning rave reviews this season.
And he believes Kane would be a good long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero at City.
“Liverpool or City, would he get in both teams?” Murphy said on talkSPORT.
“Would Liverpool and City fans take Harry Kane now?
“I think Harry Kane would get in Liverpool’s team ahead of Firmino, because I think he’d score more goals. I love Firmino but he’s not Harry Kane.
“And I think with Aguero being nearly 32, I think City fans would welcome Harry Kane with open arms.
“That’s not to say he’s better than Aguero, City fans aren’t going to have that argument, it’s not about that.
“But right now if Harry Kane was on the shopping list, would City fans be happy?
“What would he cost? That’s another question. Because you’ve got FFP as well hasn’t he. It could be a world record.”
Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent also believes Kane is a better forward than Firmino.
“I rate them both so highly as Kane can do it all and is just a dependable source of goals but Firmino’s link-up play is scary and he is the glue that holds Liverpool’s front three together,” Bent told Football Insider.
“But that said Kane can get you goals and change games even when not playing well, he can be struggling upfront then the ball falls to him and he hits it home.
“So I’d pick Kane over Firmino because you know he could score goals for fun.”
