Barcelona star Lionel Messi broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s La Liga record as he scored his 35th hat-trick in the competition on Saturday night. The pair were tied on 34 however Messi netted three against RCD Mallorca on Saturday.
Messi has spent his whole career in La Liga and constantly impressed.
He won his sixth Ballon d’Or trophy at the start of the week to move ahead of Ronaldo on that count too.
His Barcelona side are sitting at the top of the table thanks to Messi’s trio of strikes.
And fans were quick to praise the Nou Camp hero.
One wrote on social media: “And that, ladies and gentlemen is how you celebrate your 6th Ballon D’Or.”
Another added: “Wins Ballon d’or on Monday. Scores a hat-trick on Saturday. Ladies and gentlemen, King Leo is his name.”
And one more wrote: “The magician does it again Messi hat trick same s**t different day”

Another comedically put: “Lionel Messi with another hat-trick tonight. That bloke is so good that it’s about time he was awarded with some sort of prize. Maybe it could be Gold coloured? In the shape of a ball perhaps?”
Messi admitted he was proud to be ahead of Ronaldo after winning his sixth Ballon d’Or.
“On the one hand, I appreciated having five and being the only one to do so,” Messi said.
“When Cristiano levelled me, I have to admit that it hurt me a bit.
“I was no longer alone at the summit. But it was logical, even if it is nice when you are alone on five.”
